ZF tech opportunity for young writers
Earlier this year, global automotive technology specialist ZF launched a new talent acquisition programme – #FutureStarter (writes Guild Vice-Chair Richard Aucock). Part of the programme is based around attracting the younger generation of engineers – future talent for future mobility technologies.
In partnership with the Guild, this could also be reflected across the media world by giving the younger generation and aspiring motoring journalists the opportunity to learn about these new technologies and how they are deployed and operate in a real-world setting. This would also help ZF meet the next generation of motoring and technology journalists.
The company is therefore extending an invite to its upcoming Masterclass event to younger journalists, so they can learn more about future chassis developments, including Vehicle Motion Control and Steer-by-Wire. The event will help attendees understand the deployment of such systems and what effect they might have, for example, when experienced on a test-drive. Additionally it will show how these technologies have driven increases in voltage requirements from 400V to 800V.
These events are very casual and great learning opportunities, not just for technology overviews but also the experiencing of a ‘media event’ at a highly relevant industry player.
Apart from understanding ZF’s perspective on the future of chassis, guests can speak to world-class engineers involved in the development of the Steer-by-Wire product and talk with students and graduates who have developed a double SbW system as a potential-use case for driving schools. A Volkswagen Golf is set up in a lab and attendees will be able to try it out in a simulated/virtual environment, which is actually great fun.
There is also an opportunity to understand the requirements of HV testing and how electric vehicles have, as a consequence, extended the requirements for both NVH and vibration testing. All of these interactions are supported by world-class engineering talent in these fields.
The event takes place on 4th November from 10am at ZF’s UK facility in Solihull, near Birmingham. Those interested in attending should email Kay Robinson.
