Freelance Section Editor Wanted

A prestigious single-marque car club is seeking a Freelance Section Editor to assist with the production of its bi-monthly magazine.

Working closely with the Editor, the role will focus on the back section of the magazine, comprising approximately 20 pages per issue. This includes event reports, member contributions, obituaries and book reviews.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for commissioning, coordinating and editing this material, ensuring it is delivered to a high editorial standard and to agreed deadlines.

Responsibilities include:

• Commissioning and liaising with contributors for event reports and Club content
• Editing and shaping submitted copy to ensure clarity, consistency and house style
• Managing the flow of material and ensuring all copy is delivered on schedule
• Sourcing and preparing obituaries and book reviews where required, or writing them yourself
• Coordinating images and writing captions for your sections
• Delivering clean, publishable copy to the Editor

The role would suit someone with:

• Strong editorial experience, ideally in magazines or specialist publications
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple contributors, with a good email manner essential
• A confident editorial voice and close attention to detail
• A genuine interest in historic and classic cars, and an understanding of the marque and club culture

This is a freelance role, working to a six issue annual schedule. The Section Editor will report to the Editor, who retains overall editorial control of the magazine.

Fee: £1,000-£1,200 per issue depending on experience
