Motor Trader is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic editor to drive one of the leading brands in this very competitive B2B sector.

The ideal candidate would be somebody who is looking for a step up from deputy editor or section editor level to become an editor. A background in business journalism at a senior level is essential.

Motor Trader requires somebody who is able to run a monthly print publication, but with lots of experience of running a website, speaking and chairing conferences and presenting awards.

Overall Purpose of the Role:

  • To lead and manage the MT editorial team, with effective management of publications, website, webinars, awards and conference management.
  • To write and present.


Responsibilities:

  • Be an ambassador for the Motor Trader brand.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate publication of 10 monthly magazines, weekly e-newsletters, a daily website.
  • Manage and encourage a team of two in-house staff and freelance contributors.
  • Work closely with the commercial team to enhance the profitability of the magazine, online products and events.
  • Accompany commercial teams to client meetings.
  • Regularly present at events and on video.
  • Enhance the brand's social media presence and audio/visual output.
  • Take responsibility for the speaker acquisition and content of webinars and conferences.
  • Represent the company at trade shows.  The willingness and ability to travel, sometimes at short notice is essential.
  • Representing and taking speaker and/or moderation roles at industry conferences and awards.
  • Escalation of issues to senior management as necessary and appropriate.
  • Completion of any administrative tasks as required.
  • Ensure that the company processes and policies in relation to revenue generation and representation in the company accounts is accurate and appropriate in all circumstances, referring matters to the publisher or managing director (or in their absence the finance director or financial controller as appropriate) whenever necessary.
  • Adherence to all relevant HMRC and all other regulatory accounting principles.
  • Adherence of the company policies including the anti-bribery and corruption policy.
  • To carry out any other ad hoc duties as may be required from time to time.

  • Experienced journalist, with experience managing a team in a positive manner.

  • Excellent writing and copy-editing skills, with a flair for page design.
  • Sound website management and social media skills.
  • Enthusiastic and outgoing individual who can demonstrate the ability to represent the brand with confidence.
  • Evidence of idea generation to strengthen the brand and enhance its editorial and commercial output.
