A premium automotive manufacturer based in Hampshire is seeking a media relations executive to work on an open ended contract via Gi Group, based on site in Farnborough.

The key purpose of the role is to influence the reputation of the company and its products, proactively and reactively, though positive and effective relationship management with the media.

Supporting the media relations manager and also leading specific media-facing projects, the right candidate will play a significant role in the enhancement and protection the company and its products in the eyes of the media and the public.

Key Activities:

  • Identify research, create and place positive news stories in the media to enhance the reputation and exposure of the company and its products with the media.
  • Develop and maintain strong and productive relationships with the UK media.
  • Respond to and handle media queries in a timely and professional manner; have deep product knowledge.
  • Provide key support to media relations manager in the planning and organisation of product launch events, ensuring product information and attributes are communicated effectively.
  • Close liaison with PR events team in developing the programme for product launch events, to maximise message delivery, efficiency and effectiveness from a communicative perspective.
  • Create innovative ideas: event concepts, press materials, invitations and key visuals.
  • Take leadership role in the organisation and delivery of certain media events, where the events team is not involved.
  • Participate in, and co-ordinate the UK media in international launch activities to maximise positive media impact for new products and services.
  • Act as press spokesperson at selected motor industry events (SMMT days; Regional media events etc).
  • Write product press releases for national distribution.
  • Prepare Q&As for product communications.
  • Manage press release distribution agency and corporate communications’ media monitoring agency, ensuring coverage is shared among key internal stakeholders effectively and press releases are distributed efficiently.
  • Create, develop and manage effective use of new communications media.

Experience and Qualification:

  • The role holder should have at least two years experience of the media industry and have a very good understanding of the requirements of a typical journalist. They should also have a solid understanding of automotive business and products and a knowledge of products and services.
  • Degree level qualifications.
  • Additional professional PR qualification an advantage.

  • Exceptional communications skills – verbal and written – with a proven track record of both.
  • Must have the ability to stand in for the media relations manager when he is absent.
  • Positive outlook and energetic personality. Able to communicate effectively and personify the brand and the company to this highly influential target audience. Must possess the confidence to act as a spokesperson on product issues.
  • Needs excellent organisational skills and an ordered mind, with the ability to take leadership of selected media events.
  • Inquisitive and creative mind is needed to explore and develop new ways to communicate messages and to have a full understanding of the competitive product and corporate landscape.
  • Solid record of having established a range of media contacts.
  • Willingness to work unsociable hours. The media works seven days per week and sometimes so must this role.
