Contribute to the Guild Ben Fund online
THE GUILD Benevolent Fund has a new – and easier – way for members and friends to make donations. It has teamed up with the internet-based organisation Just Giving to make contributing to the Fund as simple as clicking a mouse.
Go to www.justgiving.com/gomw and follow the on-screen instructions. You can make a one-off donation, a regular monthly payment or set up a fund-raising event where friends can sponsor you in your chosen stunt.
Just Giving tackles all the administration, takes the money via secure credit card transfer and even adds Gift Aid where applicable. Your donation is immediately placed into the Fund’s coffers where it can gain interest before being called upon to help a fellow member in need.
The Fund Trustees hope to persuade every member who can afford it to make a regular contribution of at least £5 a month via Just Giving. Trustee Matthew Carter, who looks after fundraising, says: “We are extremely grateful to the members who have arranged monthly donations via their banks in the past, but we have found that standing order procedures are inefficient at best. Sometimes they simply don’t work. Just Giving is such an efficient way of donating that we are hoping many more members will now contribute regularly to the charity.
”He adds: “As the credit squeeze tightens we are anticipating more and more calls on our resources, which is why we need to keep them topped up. A fiver is the equivalent of a pint and a packet of crisps… so, once a month, instead of having one for the road, give us the money via Just Giving. You’ll not only be saving your liver and your licence but you might also be helping to save a friend or colleague.”
